CONSTRUCTION

Powerline Plus Ltd., is one of the most prominent overhead and underground utility contractors in Ontario, Canada. Our Company is based in Toronto and employs upwards of 300 full time staff with access to additional trades and resources.

PROCUREMENT

Powerline Plus Ltd.’s procurement and facilities team operates a vast warehouse encompassing the best supplies, tools, equipment and inventory that meets and exceeds Toronto Hydro standards.

History

Powerline Plus is a privately owned and operated infrastructure company with a proud history. Established in 1990, we have grown exponentially both in size and stature while rapidly moving to the forefront of the industry. The scope of our operation has broadened accordingly and now comprises of design and engineering, civil, electrical and street-lighting. Powerline Plus provides innovative, reliable and cost effective solutions tailored to our customers’ budgets, timelines and environmental concerns. We provide quality solutions to public utilities, municipalities and developers, as well as to industrial, national and international manufacturing companies.

Corporate Responsibility

To achieve the trust and confidence of our clients and employees, Powerline Plus has obtained a series of prestigious designations proving we operate and comply with the requirements of high level standards such as the International Health and Safety Association’s COR, as well as the internationally recognized OHSAS 18001 (health & safety), ISO 14001 (environmental), ISO 9001 (quality) and CSA-Z299.1-1985 (quality) management systems. Powerline Plus maintains active membership with ISNetworld, consistently achieving ‘A’ grade status in accordance with client health & safety reporting requirements. To synchronize these achievements, Powerline Plus has implemented the “One Team” approach by investments in information technology, planning, budgeting, marketing and customer experience teams. Health and Safety

At Powerline Plus, we place the utmost importance on both public and employee safety and environmental considerations at all times. This is demonstrated by our excellent safety and environmental record, our top of the line Personal Protective Equipment, and our readily available Health and Safety Programs and Procedures.

Powerline Plus is committed to actively preventing and mitigating workplace injuries to create an injury free atmosphere for our employees, contractors, visitors, and the public. All of our field staff (including visitors and the public) are dressed in fire-resistant garment, and are informed of their responsibilities in emergency response scenarios via emergency preparedness and response procedures.

We proactively train and monitor our employees on an ongoing basis in accordance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as consistently train our workers on the Toronto Hydro Work Protection Code.

We have been the recipient of several prestigious awards for Health and Safety, Environmental Management, and Quality Management; such as OHSA18001, ISO 9001 and 14001 for the past several years.

At Powerline Plus, an active Joint Health and Safety Committee, along with other trained experts and dedicated Field Safety Inspectors, are responsible to monitor, advise, and make recommendations to our plan and draft new policies in conjunction to site specific requirements. We are exceptionally proud of our team’s ability to embrace the Internal Responsibility System.

Our plan includes taking preventative actions to protect our employees and the general public through ongoing compliance, continual improvement, workplace engagement and communication, accountability, risk management, and performance monitoring to protect those affected by our operations.

This 2014 -2021 accessibility plan outlines the policies and actions that Powerline Plus Ltd. (“Powerline”) will put in place to improve opportunities for people with disabilities.

Powerline has already implemented the following steps to ensure the creation of workplace emergency plans for employees with disabilities:

  • Provide individualized workplace emergency response information to employees who have a disability, if the disability is such that the individualized information is necessary and Powerline is aware of the need for accommodation due to the employee’s disability
  • Individualized workplace emergency response information will be reviewed when the employee moves to a different location in the organization, when the employee’s overall accommodation needs/plans are reviewed, and when Powerline reviews general emergency response policies

Information and Communications

Powerline is committed to making our information and communications accessible to people with disabilities. We will consult with people with disabilities to determine their information and communication needs.

Powerline has taken steps to make all new websites and content on those sites conform with WCAG 2.0, Level A by January 1, 2014.

Powerline will take the following steps to ensure existing feedback processes are accessible to people with disabilities upon request by January 1, 2015:

  • Make available different channels for employees to provide feedback, including telephone, email, written, or through their manager
  • Make available different channels for our customers and the provide to provide feedback, including telephone and email

Powerline will take the following steps to make sure all publicly available information is made accessible upon request by January 1, 2016:

  • Make available all public information in formats taking into account the person’s accessibility due to disability

Powerline will take the following steps to make all websites and content conform with WCAG 2.0 Level AA by January 1, 2021:

  • Have internal and third-party accessibility consultants regularly monitor and test our website
  • Identify usability issues and discover new solutions to further improve accessibility to our site

Employment

Powerline is committed to fair and accessible employment practices.

We will take the following steps to notify the public and staff that, when requested, Powerline will accommodate people with disability during the recruitment and assessment processes and when people are hired by January 1, 2016:

  • Post information on our website
  • Include information in job postings

Powerline will take the following steps to develop and put in place a process for developing individual accommodation plans and return-to-work policies for employees that have been absent due to disability by January 1, 2016:

  • Involve employees in the development of their plans
  • Assess the accommodation needs of our employees
  • Protect the privacy of our employees’ personal information
  • Tell employees why we would deny a request for an accommodation plan
  • Provide plans in accessible formats
  • Review and update the plans with employees regularly
  • Reach out to employees who publicly display a disability and find out how we can accommodate their needs
  • Consider what accommodations may be appropriate for an employee returning to work, depending on if their disability is temporary, recurring or permanent

We will take the following steps to ensure the accessibility needs of employees with disabilities are taken into account in our performance management, career development and redeployment processes by January 1, 2016:

  • Review employees’ accommodation plans to understand their needs and see whether adjustments need to be made to help them succeed
  • Make performance management documents available in accessible formats when asked
  • Provide feedback and coach employees in a way that is accessible to them
  • Consider what accommodations employees with disabilities may need to learn new skills or take on more responsibility

Training

Powerline is committed to providing training in the requirements of Ontario’s accessibility laws and the Ontario Human Rights Code as it applies to people with disabilities. Training will be provided in a way that best suits the duties of employees, volunteers and other staff members.

Powerline will take the following steps to ensure employees are provided with the training needed to meet Ontario’s accessible laws by January 1, 2015:

  • Provide an online training module on Ontario’s accessibility laws and Human Rights Code to all existing employees and new hires
  • Maintain a record of all employees who are trained and when
