A Proud History of Success

1990 – Powerline Plus Ltd. is Founded

After immigrating to Canada with his young family and no connections – just a small loan from his brother – our founder Ben Matin started Powerline Plus in 1990, slowly growing the business until our first big break came nine years into our history.

1999 – Taking a Calculated Gamble

Matin took a leap of faith to win a multi-million-dollar job in 1999, taking a line of credit out on his house (after consulting with his wife, who backed him all the way) to chase his dream of expanding the business. The workload and funding from winning his first big project enabled Matin to grow our employee base and take on more complex work in the years to come.

2008 – Servicing One of Canada’s Largest Utility Markets

The six cities of the greater Toronto area voted to combine into a single entity known as Toronto Hydro. We were awarded electrical distribution work with the municipal utility and have consistently handled complex projects on the east side of the greater Toronto area since 2010.

2013 – Purchase of an On-site Concrete Plant

We acquired an on-site ready-mix concrete plant in 2013, allowing us to produce our own concrete for supporting civil construction projects, significantly improving efficiency and schedules for our clients. All concrete used on our projects is sourced from our on-campus concrete plant.

2016 – Expanding Campus to Accommodate Growth

As we continued to grow, more space was needed to handle the various aspects of the business, from our robust fleet to warehouses and more. Our 127,000-square-foot campus houses three buildings, including our concrete plant.

2022 – Powerline Plus Joins MYR Group

MYR Group acquired Powerline Plus in January 2022, expanding its Transmission and Distribution (T&D) capabilities in Canada through our extensive utility experience. We also gained added skilled resources in finance, legal, management, equipment, fleet, and information technology.

As a premier member of MYR Group, we have the financial, managerial, labour, and equipment expertise and resources to successfully complete overhead and underground electrical installations of any type and size throughout the greater Toronto area.
