Gerrard Street East Bridge Distribution
Client | Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited (THESL) |
Completion Date | November 2021 |
Location | Toronto, Ontario, Canada |
This project scope of work entailed the design and implementation for the removal and replacement of an existing duct structure located under the Gerrard Street Bridge crossing over Don Valley Parkway (DVP), Metrolinx corridor, Don River, and Bayview Avenue. By working with scaffold contractors to install and remove the engineered scaffold suspension system, we were able to access the work area. The project work included the installation of a debris containment system to stop objects from falling onto the DVP, Don River, Bayview Road, Metrolinx tracks, or the pedestrian/bicycle pathway. Also, this project required cleaning all existing pipes of loose rust/scale and remnants of previous bridge rehabilitation work, as well as removing all remaining abandoned THESL cables from existing duct. Powerline Plus served as a liaison with several telecommunication companies for the removal and relocation of active cables in the ducts. Crews also provided the removal and recycling/disposal of all existing ducts, installation of new support systems, anchors, and ducts, and rebuilt the recesses of the cable chambers at each end of the bridge.
